Irritable Bowel Syndrome - A Different Approach

Having Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a very unpleasant condition.

It doesn't only give you physical pain but also social and emotional problems. Your daily activities may become limited due to having IBS. You may always want to stay put in the comforts of your home where the bathroom is always available.

What Is IBS?

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a digestive disorder that is usually characterized by having cramps, abdominal pains and abnormal bowel functions like gas, bloating, constipation and diarrhea. Usually there are no abnormalities seen on x-rays, making the condition a functional disorder.

Treatments

There are a lot of treatments available in treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Some of the treatments may sound and look eccentric while some are traditional. Depending on your preference and lifestyle, you can choose whatever treatment you want. Just make sure that you know what are their benefits and down sides.

Diet

One common approach used, especially by those people who have food intolerance as the form of their IBS, is dieting. For example you are lactose intolerant, you should be cutting off milk from your diet. Here you don't eat any of those foods that trigger your IBS to make it worse.

Medication

Another widely used approach is through medication. Your doctor can give you a prescription or two for having Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Medicines would depend on whether you have diarrhea or constipation. But taking meds for long time use may not be effective since your body may become immune to the medicine.

Alternative Approaches

There are also alternative approaches in treating IBS. Many of them have been reported to be highly effective though some of the approaches are quite different. Not all of them are recommended by doctors, nor unapproved of. Even though they're no medically valid, a lot of people still use them for treating IBS.

Digestion And Hypnotism?

One alternative approach in treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome is through hypnotism. Yes, you read it right -- it is hypnotism! Surprising, as it may seem doctors also recommend this alternative approach. Since it is one way that you need not to have to intake something in your body.

This doesn't mean that you get to look at swirling colors and when your hypnotist says you stop having IBS after he snaps his finger your IBS would be gone. This is an active process where you gain consciousness of your situation. Since depression is one of the said factors of IBS, you are put into a unstressed state by this approach so that your digestion would become normal.

Acupuncture

It is said that acupuncture cures a lot of health problems and this includes Irritable Bowel Syndrome. By this ancient Chinese technique of pricking pins to the body, your blood circulation is increased and for some reason it is said that you get to be healthier if that happens.

This approach isn't really medically approved nor denied, but still many people opt for it. So if you think that a traditional approach such as acupuncture can cure you, then why not try it for once? You'll never know until you get to experience it first hand.
