It would be so great if we could:
1. Treat ourselves for strep throat instead of having to go spend time sitting in a medical office being sick and miserable
2. Have access to a medicine that would absolutely kill all strains of strep at a fraction of the cost of conventional antibiotics - and with no side effects, and just one day.
Strep throat is a common occurrence is many households in the U.S. It has been reported that children in the U.S. suffer from Strep throat on average every four years for each child. It can be a serious disease. The Center for Disease Control reports that toxic shock syndrome and even death (1,000 to 1,800 deaths yearly) have resulted from the disease. You may be familiar with the symptoms, two of which are white patches on the throat and swollen lymph nodes in the neck which go along with the sore throat. Let's look at both the conventional allopathic treatment (which is what we normally get in the U.S.) and a natural treatment.
When we get strep throat in North America it is common to have an antibiotic prescribed for us for 10 days of therapy. In order to get the antibiotic we must go to a medical practitioner and normally have a strep test done. Both of these practices cost some money. If you have real good insurance then all you have to pay is the copay. PBS has reported that 44 million Americans have no health insurance. For these people the cost of the office visit, the lab test, and the antibiotic can be prohibitive. If they must take time off work it can be even worse. Antibiotics themselves can be a problem. Some possible side effects of an antibiotic use for strep are:
• Stomach upset
• Diarrhea
• Rash
• Allergic reactions including hives, angioedema, throat tightness, wheezing, coughing, asthma-like reactions.
• Anaphylactic reactions. This includes the symptoms of an allergic reaction and also very low blood pressure, difficult breathing, pain in the abdomen, swelling of the throat, enlarged tongue, vomiting, and diarrhea.
• Death. Yes, you may kill yourself or your child with this therapy.
Compare the antibiotic therapy to using a natural therapy. In this case, we will consider garlic as the heavy-hitter. The length of the therapy is just one twenty-four hour day. The expense of this therapy is nominal -less than ten dollars! Not only that, but there is no office call expense or lab test expense. If you must miss work, it is only one day versus 10 days. Now let's get to what is involved in the therapy.
Eat well. No dairy! Dairy seems to increase mucus production which can be a great way to grow the strep bacteria. Stay very warm. Do not be afraid of the fever. I personally do not attempt to suppress my fever unless it gets into the range over 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Why? Each degree of fever doubles the speed of our immune response. Whether we use drug therapy or natural therapy it is the immune system that ends up clinching the battle. If I am uncomfortable I wrap up in blankets and sip chamomile tea in order to sooth my discomfort. You may want to keep a thermometer handy to manage fever if it gets close to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Now here is the formula for the garlic therapy. For each teaspoonful the proportions are:
• One tablespoonful of pure unpasteurized honey
• 翹 teaspoonful of cayenne pepper
• Four cloves of garlic pressed in a garlic press
The dose would be 翻 teaspoonful to one teaspoonful of the formula every 30-60 minutes for 24 hours. We do not wash it down, but allow it to coat the throat. And what if we have mis-diagnosed ourselves? Don't worry; garlic is antiviral and anti-fungal as well as being antibacterial. Anything that may be causing the sore throat will be taken care of by the garlic-cayenne-honey combination. So, for a 24 hour therapy it will take four tablespoonfuls of honey, 1 teaspoonful of cayenne pepper, and sixteen pressed cloves of garlic mixed together.
