Early Labor During Pregnancy - A Common Concern

Early labor during pregnancy or false labor is a very common concern among mothers. It is very common for women to experience false labour, which feels like the real thing. Before the actual labor begins, you may be bothered with mild contractions and pain, which could last from hours to days. It is best to note the time of contractions and average them out, how strong they get in how much time. When you feel you cannot ignore the contractions, that mean you are in labor getting ready for delivery and this is time to start practicing your labor techniques.

What Not To Do In Early Labor during Pregnancy

  • Not sleeping is the worst thing you can do at this end stage of pregnancy. You need all the rest you can get. Some times labor pains tend to start in your sleep. This can get you a bit excited and nervous, which can further aggravate your sleeplessness. Not getting enough sleep can get you tired and drained out, and you need to have all the energy you need during your labor.

  • Not eating will only reduce your energy levels and make you more fatigued. Another sign is hunger, so if you are hungry, eat.

  • Another common mistake women do is getting all the rest they need when they should not. As long as possible the mother should continue her normal activities, it will eventually help her. Just lying down and resting will make the waiting process very long, and boring and drain you mentally and emotionally.

  • First time mothers normally get very anxious and make the mistake of going to the hospital too soon. Waiting for labor to happen can be very frustrating, as there is no distraction in the hospital. Also restricting movement may make the labor and delivery prolonged.

After a few hours of pre labor, you may feel the contractions to be different, more rhythmic, and stronger. Some women may experience bloody show or lose their mucous plug and may have mild diarrhea, or runny nose. At this labor stage in pregnancy, the contractions are generally every 10 minutes for about 45- 50 seconds. You will feel the contractions are stronger, closer, and longer with time and may feel like menstrual cramping or a dull backache. Early labor during pregnancy can be confused with labor, so being relaxed and calm will help you through it.
