Pregnancy Nausea and Diarrhea

In addition to pregnancy nausea, an expectant mother can also suffer from diarrhea. Constipation is common during pregnancy, but diarrhea can happen at anytime. There are many causes of this ailment that can be attributed to lactose intolerance, the eating of certain foods, pregnancy nausea, and hormonal changes. This can be a short lived problem but it still has potential to be serious, and even lead to dehydration in the same way vomiting can. If you have both vomiting and diarrhea at the same time you must see a doctor and get help to prevent harmful dehydration.

Diarrhea can happen later in the pregnancy; even right up until starting labor. Now, the body could be trying to empty out the digestive system and colon so there is more space for the baby to be delivered. But, viruses or food can cause this to happen as well.

Diarrhea can happen suddenly as well or develop into a watery form. If it is a watery form, this may simply be the body re adjusting itself and this will pass. After constipation, you can get this ailment in a day or two period as the body cleans out your system. Food poisoning can also be a factor and this will most likely be a short diarrhea of less than 24 hours.

There are some simple treatments you can try to deal with your diarrhea during the stages of pregnancy. As with pregnancy nausea and vomiting, it is imperative to keep hydrated and drink plenty of water. You can also eat simple foods such as rice, toast, soda crackers, and bananas. Manage the food intake though, as you don't want to go in reverse and become constipated.

Take in high fiber foods during your pregnancy and you can help to prevent having this happen. A lot of green vegetables, salads, juices, and fruits can all help keep your system running well. Be careful on how much caffeine products you have such as coffee or soda pop. It is even wise to consider not drinking these at all during your pregnancy.

If you get a fever or any sort of sickness while having diarrhea it is imperative to get to a doctor right away. While there are simple remedies and prevention measures you can take; ultimately you will need a medical professional if these things do not cure your symptoms.
