Green Tea Side Effects - Get the Benefits Without the Risk

Any unwanted green tea side effects would likely have to do with the caffeine that it contains. Most people have no problem with drinking it or taking the supplement. But, there is a drug interaction that some people need to be aware of.

The positive side effects of green tea are due to the catechin content. Catechins are a kind or potent antioxidant found only in a few plants. One of those catechins binds with the cancer drug Velcade, rendering it therapeutically useless. If you are currently being treated for any medical condition, you should talk to your doctor before taking a health supplement. If you are being treated for cancer, you must talk to your doctor. If you know that you are taking velcade, you should avoid the beverage and any supplement that contains it.

Because of the caffeine content, you can run the risk of suffering from nervousness, anxiety and insomnia. The amount of caffeine in tea is about half of what you would find in an equivalent cup of coffee, but it is not caffeine free.

You could also experience headaches. This again is also due to the caffeine content. You can avoid any negative side effects of green tea by taking a health supplement. They are not decaffeinated, because decaffeination requires the use of solvents, which can be hazardous to your health. But, they only contain a couple of mg of caffeine. They mostly contain catechins.

The positive green tea side effects that you may notice include improved ability to concentrate, a decrease in indigestion or other stomach problems and reduction of diarrhea. You might even lose some weight. Various researchers have said that catechins contribute to the loss of pounds and inches. One researcher says that it helps your body burn more 70-80 extra calories per day. Another says that you can lose 10 pounds in six weeks just by switching from coffee to green tea.

When drinking green, you could also experience frequent urination. It has been used as a diuretic in the past. A diuretic is a drug that causes the body to shed water. The only other side effects are positive, but these you may not notice for years to come.

It is believed to reduce your risk of heart disease, Alzheimer's and cancer, when it is consumed on a regular basis. Researchers believe that you can get those same benefits by taking a supplement, without having to deal with the negative risks of caffeine mentioned above.  If you're like me, you want benefits, not risks.

The best supplements are those that contain a variety of different nutrients, including essential vitamins, minerals and amino acids. A number of plant extracts can be combined to provide benefit on a daily basis. If you have tried supplements in the past and never noticed any benefit, you weren't taking a good one. Find a good one and don't worry about green tea side effects.
