Diarrhea though benign is often uncomfortable and inconvenient. In cases when diarrhea is caused by the intake of junk or tainted foods or due to intestinal infections, it is best to allow nature to take its own course. This is because the body is itself getting rid of the causative factors. However, it is always wise to prevent dehydration by taking plenty of fluids to replace the lost electrolytes.

Since some over-the-counter medicines taken for diarrhea cause constipation, it is better to opt for natural and home remedies for diarrhea.

The most common home remedy advocated for diarrhea is to follow the BRATTY diet. It stands to signify bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, tea and yogurt. Most doctors too recommend this diet because it effectively helps to bulk up the intestines and some of these foods have a slightly constipating effect.

Green tea is very good for adults and the rice that should be used is brown rice because it has high dietary fiber content and lessens diarrhea. The toast that should be eaten should be one that is made of wheat and butter and jam should not be added to the toast because it may only worsen diarrhea.

Chamomile tea helps to reduce the discomforts caused by diarrhea. For example, the intake of this tea helps to reduce cramping and to reduce the irritation and inflammation caused by diarrhea.

Lemon juice is also a home remedy for diarrhea. Drinking freshly squeezed lemon juice in a cup of hot water shows favorable results.

Dried raspberry leaves are a good natural remedy for diarrhea. They should be soaked in 2 cups of hot water and left for half an hour. It should be then strained and taken throughout the day. Blackberry juice is also a good natural remedy and should be taken every frequently according to the intensity of the discomforts.
