Baby Weaning Guidelines


The decision about when to wean your precious baby is yours.

The advice from medical authorities is after 6 months, but experience and the baby's health factors showed it's no problem to introduce solids to your infant as early as 4 months.

Weaning rules

A baby who is introduced solid foods in his diet must be in a perfect state of health;
The introduction of new food will be gradually and progressively;
Solid foods are fed with a baby spoon;
Introduced new food will be proposed and not imposed, if the baby will refuse a specific food, you shouldn't insist, not trigger a psychogenic anorexia;

You will not introduce two new foods at the same time for two reasons: on one side the baby may not like one of them, or it may cause the baby health issues like allergies or diarrhea, and you won't know which was.

At first, solid meals will consist in some amount of breastmilk or formula, which the baby is used to;
The foods should not be spicy or contain concentrated sweets, bottled juices, puddings, the best would be to only prepare everything yourself;

Until the age of one year will not give honey to your baby;
Up to one year also avoid foods that can create allergy such as cocoa, chocolate, raspberries, strawberries;

If you use commercial preparations especially made for infants, they should be used within 24 hours of opening;
At age of 7-8 months you may encourage baby led weaning and finger foods;

BLW (Baby Led Weaning) is an alternative to the "traditional" weaning process, an extension of breastfeeding on demand, which implies, as a concept, to trust that your child knows what, when and how much she needs to eat. The child is left free to eat solid foods at first, choosing what and how she wishes, it is given control (almost) exclusively of her food, is left to experiment, to discover flavors and textures, to play with cuts of food... Of course, the parent is the one who decides what will put on the baby's plate.

Thus, babies who are given control of - and satisfaction - to feed themselves, eating a greater variety of foods,have the digestion improved by mixing food with saliva during chewing, quickly develop hand control and seem to avoid foods that later would create intolerance.
