Should You Be Drinking Aloe Vera Juice?

If you ever walked through the "Digestive Health" section in a health food store, you might have noticed Jugs of Aloe Vera Juice on the shelf. Well more popular for its topical use for a plethora skin conditions, Aloe Vera can also play a role internally, helping to solve a host of different digestive ailments. Aloe Juice is made from the gel of the Aloe plant. This gel contains most of the plants medical properties including polysaccharides which promote healing and glycoproteins which have anti-inflammatory powers. It is also very high in fiber aiding in general digestive health.

Here are some internal ailments that aloe vera juice is thought to help with:

Ulcers

Aloe Vera has natural antibacterial abilities that can help curb the presence of H. Pylori which is the bacteria that can cause stomach ulcers. The long chain sugars (polysaccharides) can also penetrate the stomach lining and intestines and promote cellular rejuvenation and its anti-inflammatory properties can help reduce the irritation due to ulcers.

IBS

Aloe Vera pulp's high fiber content helps promote regularity and better digestion which can prevent many of the autoimmune flare ups in the digestive tract. It can help the digestive tract better recover from inflammatory diseases like irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, and Crohn's disease.

Cholesterol

Loaded with fiber, Aloe Vera Pulp can also help eliminate the stores of "bad cholesterol" that is hanging out in your blood vessels. Lower cholesterol levels means that your heart muscles can operate more efficiently and the reduction of blood clots leading to an overall improvement of vascular health. Lower Cholesterol also means lower blood glucose which can help with diabetes and insulin resistance.

Fatigue

Aloe can penetrate your body's cells bringing them vital nutrients (vitamins, mineral, amino acids) working as an adaptogen to promote more efficient fuel production. Drinking aloe vera juice along with some of your favorite juiced fruits and veggies can give you a surplus of energy.

Make Your Own

Aloe Juice found in the store is specially prepared for safe consumption. However, with a bit of care, you can harvest your own gel from your very own plant. It is important to use only the inner gel and to wash away the sticky latex residue since this part of the plant can cause abdominal pain and diarrhea. Also, be sure to discuss Aloe Vera with your doctor, especially if you are on certain medications.
