Rabbit Care Guidelines

Food: Today there are several brands of rabbit feed available in the market; you need to choose one that is low on synthetic flavors and colors. The feed should be offered daily (puppies should consume 80 grams per day, and adults from 100 to 120 grams).

Hay should be offered to the rabbits because it benefits the digestive system, prevents diseases such as hair balls in the stomach, diarrhea and obesity and also helps in proper growth and maintenance of its teeth. Rabbits shouldn't have meat, milk, sweets, biscuits, potatoes, tomatoes and lettuce. NEVER give these to your rabbit because they causes diarrhea. Offer vegetables with dark foliage (wash very well before offering them). It is also important to go slowly while introducing each new food. Here are some food items that you can give to your bunny.

Tips To Take Care of Teeth Nails and Coat

Teeth: The teeth of rabbits grow constantly; wear them off by offering foods such as carrots, hay, toasted bread and wooden toys (without chemical treatment).

Nails: You can take it to a pet shop or if you prefer you can even cut the nail of your bunny at home, using appropriate pliers. The only caution you need to undertake is watch out for parts of the nails that have pink veins. Always cut the part that extend beyond the fingers so as not to cause bleeding, as is done with dogs and cats.

Coat: There is no need to bathe your rabbit but if you need to, never leave it wet! Dry it well with a dryer and use warm water to bathe it. Use mild soap or shampoo. Do not use dog products such as anti-flea shampoo etc. These can be toxic and even cause death.

Always remember that rabbits are very curious by nature and can harm themselves if you don't watch over them throughout the day. Do not let your bunny loose when there's no one around to watch over it. It could also cause damage to furniture and other household items by chewing them up.
