I have a friend that has had food poisoning quite bad with constant vomiting and diarrhea twice in the last 3-4 years. He wants to know if this could be the major factor for him having a candida.
By just looking at this from a logical point of view I would say yes, the food poisoning bouts have probably contributed to him having candida. When you get sick with a stomach bug and you get diarrhea, you can lose the good flora in your digestive system from the diarrhea. When you lose the good flora in your digestive system, the bacteria candida can change form and become that horrible yeast infection that we are all familiar with. The good bacteria usually keeps that candida bacteria in check. But if it has gone from your system for one reason or another you can end up with the candida in its yeast form. Also, with the loss of good bacteria you are more likely to get diarrhea and other stomach bugs again.
I had also read somewhere that mainstream doctors were trialling the use of probiotics - the good bacteria that you can get in capsules or in some types of yoghurt - in children who had continued bouts of diarrhea. I think this research was being done at the John Hopkins University.
But it is still a confusing fact, since candida sufferers would ask: do we have this deficiency because of the candida, or does the deficiency make us prone to getting candida? Most of them would think that they have had problems with fungal infections of the skin since childhood. Apparently, people with candida are usually deficient in magnesium and Potassium. That's what I believe.
