What Are the Keflex Side Effects?

Keflex has emerged as a wonder medicine but just as with any other medicine, side effect might occur with Keflex (cephalixin). Though, nevertheless all the people who are taking this medicine may not suffer from the effects as most of them tolerate it rather well, but if some effects do occur they are generally negligible, needing no treatment or are treated without much difficulties. One needs to take the medicine regularly and need to see when the related side effects occur and at what frequencies, so as to counterpart with them. The most frequent effects of Keflex include diarrhea, inexplicable rash or dizziness. These are quite a few very common ones of the regular kinds, which actually don't need any kind of medication. However, chronic or watery diarrhea, peeling of the skin and unexpected bleeding or brushing might present serious problems. If these effects are prolonged and things are worsening one may stop taking the drug and seek proper medical attention, so as not to face more medical problem.

Much research work has been done on the Keflex. Studies have been conducted through extensive clinical trials and with the evaluation of thousands of people around the world. The main focus of these studies is to compare the effects of the drug to people who are not using it. This is a good approach to have a clear idea of the frequency and nature of the side effects on the people taking a placebo.

The studies reveal that the more common side effects of this drug experienced by the people, no matter adults or children are dizziness, inexplicable rash, diarrhea, upset stomach, headache, yeast infection, nausea, dyspepsia and confusion.

In certain cases, many people experience effects, which can be a warning for some major problem, whenever you experience any of the following signs, stop taking the drug and contact your doctor immediately. Such drastic side effects may include swelling of the throat, itching, inexplicable bleeding or bruising, chronic or watery diarrhea, difficulty breathing or swallowing, chronic rash, peeling of the skin, throat or mouth sores, blood in stools, wheezing and hives.

There are other rare effects of this drug also. These rare side effects may include seizures or severe intestinal infection (enterocolitis), hallucinations, thrombocytopenia, vomiting, vaginal discharge, anemia, fatigue, confusion, joint pain and bloody diarrhea.

Rare effects of the drug are so unusual and happen in less than 1% of people. Due to their unusual nature, it becomes difficult to diagnose the nature of the side effects, as it is hard to specify that the effects are caused by drug or by something else.

It is not always simple for you to specify the nature of the effects and their causes. Sometimes, drug isn't at all responsible for these side effects. Whenever, you feel something strange or odd happening to you, contact your doctor immediately. He will be the only person who can diagnose the problem properly.
